In New York City. What? What did you think I was talking about?
At 53, I’d never been to New York before. And I’ve always wanted to go. So, it was a huge deal when I was finally on that plane headed for La Guardia last month. RWA (Romance Writers of America) held its 35th annual national conference in July and I was lucky enough to be able to go.
And what an AMAZING time I had!
I used to babysit the most precious little guy ever who now lives in Greenwich Village and he very generously allowed me to stay in his apartment while he was out of town. And staying in the Village, taking the subway everywhere, I got to spend the weekend experiencing life in Manhattan more as a resident than a tourist.
In addition to seeing several of the expected sites like the Empire State Building, the 911 Memorial, and the Statue of Liberty,
I also explored the Village neighborhood, walking to the grocer’s across the street, the local bookstore, the restaurant and parks just around the corner. I walked past the famous Stonewall Inn,
went to a Broadway show (It Shoulda Been You with Tyne Daly), had some New York pizza, and got to have dinner with my spectacularly wonderful editor, Kathryn Lye.
I walked all the way up 5th avenue from the Empire State Building, through Central Park to the Guggenheim, saw St. Patrick’s cathedral, 30 Rock and Times Square.
But the most fabulous thing was attending Harlequin’s party at the Waldorf-Astoria on the Rooftop. Wow! Delicious desserts, open bar, and music and dancing till midnight!

It was an amazing time I’ll never forget. My First Time.
Anywhere you always dreamed of going and then finally got to visit?
